Quantity Surveyor – Tampa, FL

KENPAT is seeking to fill the position of Quantity Surveyor in our Tampa, FL, office. The Quantity Surveyor will serve as the bridge between various departments to achieve organizational consistency. This person will manage business risk, applying expertise and knowledge of cost estimating, construction management, quantity surveying, legal and insurance issues to achieve technical success of the Company. Major areas of responsibility will be value engineering oversight during post-bid processes, oversight of change order pricing, and management, quantity surveying and risk management.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

• Estimate costs of goods or services. Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.

• Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work. Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Confer with personnel to coordinate business operations. Oversee one direct report.

• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. Establish business management methods. Maintain data in information systems or databases.

• Analyze business or financial data. Confer with others about financial matters. Monitor financial indicators. Prepare financial documents. Develop business or financial information systems.

• Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. Establish and maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations. Negotiate agreements to resolve disputes.

• Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to reduce cost. Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to reduce cost.

Performs other related professional duties as necessary to support efficient construction operations and achieve Company goals. Travel up to 15 percent of time within the United States.

Job Requirements: Requires Bachelor’s degree/foreign equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or closely related field. Requires 5 years of construction work experience, to include:

• 3 years of experience with Project Management within a construction setting, including managing subcontractor relationships.
• 5 years of post-bid risk management at senior level within the construction industry.
• 5 years of work in compiling detailed productivity analyses within a construction setting.
• 5 years of work in creating, monitoring, and reporting on budgets and Schedules of Value for construction projects of over $10 million to provide consistent alignment with Cost Accounting/Reporting.
• 5 years of experience with MS Office Suite; OST/DPC; and Spitfire and Quickbid or other construction project management software and construction estimating platforms.
• 1 year of experience with contract negotiations within a construction setting, to include two of the following: terms pre-bid, terms post-award, and negotiation of changes.
• Experience may be gained concurrently.
